MEET THE MAKER
Following in his fathers footsteps, Prasan has undertaken the family gem business with his very own jewellery division. Prasan takes pride and care in his trade by ensuring ethically sourced, obtained and processed gemstone jewellery in the district of Ratnapura, Sri Lanka.
Ethical mining ensures that the landscape and environment are not devastated and turned into wastelands instead, traditional methods are utilized to minimize negative impact on the local flora and fauna. Gemstone miners play a critical role in the business and are often the first to be exploited. Tash ensures respectable working conditions and a fair dignified remuneration agreement.
Formally trained in the art of Ayurvedia, Ruwan and his wife Manisha opted to follow their true passion of creating jewellery from alternative sustainable materials. They currently practice their art form at a home based workshop situated in a rural village, a stones throw away from the coastal town of Galle on the southern tip of Sri Lanka.
Ruwan’s work currently focuses on transforming coconut shells into wonderful pieces of jewellery, designed with heart and soul carved by hand.
Our collaboration with Kanchi, aspire to portray a hidden talent to the global marketplace, and explore alternative ways to adorn jewellery.
